| Lee enjoys painting pets in oil or acrylic on canvas. Capturing the essence of the pet's personality is foremost in her creative mind. The eyes and nose are really a challenge; they communicate who these wonderful creatures are. After the first few brush strokes, Lee takes a breather and stands back to assess the progress. Slowly, the beloved pet begins to take upon a life of its own. The painting process is like a dance between Lee and the canvas, and develops into a dance between Lee and the painted pet. |
| Lee Johnson began her art career as an apprentice goldsmith in the New Jersey, and since she refers to herself as a “visual learner,” she mastered her craft well. Some 26 years later, this multi-talented designer is living life Rabun County, Georgia style. She’s still creating custom jewelry, but her range of talents and their off-spring have both broadened and deepened. “I love melting bronze on copper,” she says of the copper jewelry she creates. And, in the last few years, she’s discovered painting. It began in Florida, before moving to Georgia, when she undertook to paint the portrait of a friend’s grandchild. Painting, she discovered, was “fun” and totally different from metal work. It’s a medium she has pursued with her usual focus and determination to task. |
